Well on the whole it was good movie (big spoilers under the cut)
The Signal takes its time to decide what it actually is. Is it a stupid teen movie? A psychological drama about incarceration? A District 9 in a controlled setting? A Dark City or Tirteenth Floor? A Superhero Movie? But as it progresses it finds the right tone.
Having a cast of relative unknowns playing off Lawrence Fishburne as the all present face of the Government is perfect. And these people are regular looking and actually emotional with some smarts between them. Admittedly, Olivia Cooke isn’t given much to do and we never do find out what, if anything, she can do with the enhancements she has. It’s funny that in the two roles I’ve seen her in (here and Bates Motel) she’s got tubes up her nose.
There’s a lot of unanswered questions, and even plotwise to deconstruct it brings up more questions
Ultimately this under-the-radar release will (hopefully) gather a nice little following
