terminators
October 26, 1984: On this day 30 years ago, “The Terminator" opened as the Number 1 film on just 1,005 screens, and took home $4,020,663 at the box office. Made for just $6.4 million it would net a profit of $78,371,200 world-wide.
It would also catapult it’s director, James Cameron, and it’s stoic villain Arnold Schwarzenegger, to mega-stardom and household names and add “I’ll Be Back” to the pop-culture lexicon forever.
This low-budget 80’s sci-fi thriller is itself one of only 625 films currently preserved in the Library of Congress as part of the National Film Registry.
