- What boosts Rimmer’s self-esteem enough to allow them to escape the terraformed planet? The idea that Lister loves him, would never abandon him, and would always come and rescue him.
- The only thing that drives Rimmer to suicide is hallucinating that Lister is his half-brother. The ‘Rimmer no longer has an excuse for his failings as they had the same upbringing’ explanation is bullshit. Rimmer’s full-brothers in reality are all way more successful than he is (as far as he knows), and it never drives him to despair.
