From the Ladies’ Home Journal in 1900, predictions for the future (which happened ten+ years ago). So let’s see what they got right (but mostly wrong).
There will be Air-Ships. I wish. Sure, airplanes; but why not a good ol’ dirigible? Still hung up on the Hindenburg, are we?
An American population of 350 to 500 Million. Currently, the population is 312 Million people.
A claim of expelling C, X, and Q from the alphabet. Hasn’t happened, but they do state, “Spelling by sound will have been adopted, first by the newspapers. English will be a language of condensed words expressing condensed ideas…” While we haven’t done away with any letters, their prediction sounds a bit like twitter and texting. omglolwtfbbq.
No Mosquitoes nor Flies. While we’ve made it easier to get rid of these pests, I think it might be a bad idea to eradicate an entire species of insects.
There will be No Street Cars In Our Large Cities. Lulz.
There will be No Wild Animals except in menageries. Ok, that’s just an odd thing to predict in just a hundred years. And by odd, I mean stupid.
Man will See Around the World; Telephones Around the World. Interwebs ftw.
Peas as Large as Beets. That’s kinda gross. I’m glad this didn’t happen. But the sentiment of modified vegetables is a reality.
There are more predictions at the link which are equally strange, if not stranger.
