Demon apples do tend to be small. In fact, the usual thing is for demons to hide inside apples and then possess people who eat them.

Perhaps there used to be a giant hellspawn demon apple breed, now extinct. PERHAPS WE OWE THE FRENCH MORE THAN WE KNOW
