*covers my webcam with my finger so the government doesn't see me do embarrassing stuff*

this is an actual thing among hacker circles, by the way. guys remotely access girls webcams to watch them in their day to day which of course, includes changing clothes, doing make up, talking to loved ones, etc etc. they call them slaves and if you don’t have a light that indicates your webcam is in use, you could currently be being watched. if you notice that your webcam light is turning on on its own, you gotta do something about it IMMEDIATELY and put some tape over the webcam until you can get it checked out.

sometimes they fake notifications from your hardware company saying a software update/bug is causing the light to turn on and off so if you see one of those and aren’t sure if its legit, do the tape thing anyway until it stops.

these videos they record can be and are used for blackmail, in case being spied on whilst naked isn’t enough for you. always buy computers with webcam lights and, if you’re really worried, keep tape over your webcam any time it is not in use

please stay safe.
