Oh  so I read MMFR Max#1 earlier and in the first few pages of narration it recaps Mad Max, Mad Max 2 and Beyond Thunderdome, and it is near explicit that Fury Road takes place after all three movies.

In fact Thunderdome itself plays a large role in Max #1

So it’s revealed that during Beyond Thunderdome and after it, Max has been trying to rebuild his interceptor! He salvaged the wreck and hauled it some place and has been slowly been restoring it piece by piece, and seems to be why he was headed towards Bartertown in the first place. Since then, he’s been getting closer to having it ready when he heads to Gas Town to fight in a new version of Thunderdome (hosted by what appears to be the same guy, now horribly disfigured). But this new Thunderdome is a free for all, many enter, one man leaves. And they’re not fighting for law or justice, they’re fighting for an engine block, specifically a Boss 351 Cleveland V8, blower and all. there’s a bunch of fighter including a fully armoured Buzzard in the mix. Max gets a bit of help from someone who looks like Noomi Rapace and wins. But of course he’s tracked down by vengeful buzzards, they steal his car, leave him to die but Noomi followed him and he’s indebted to her. we just don’t know what she wants yet.
