The most common type of diamond in the world is the brown diamond. Marketing creeps have been trying in recent years to reposition them as “chocolate diamonds” to make them sound luxurious, but their main uses are industrial; they’re used for cutting and grinding and polishing other materials.
I like to imagine that there is a Brown Diamond who we never hear about but who is, like, the Hephaestus of the Diamond Authority and manages all the gritty industrial jobs and actually keeps everything running in practical terms and gets no credit and the other Diamonds are like “ew.”
And Brown Diamond doesn’t give a shit because she has the most interesting and intrinsically satisfying job of all of them, to her way of thinking.
Also, while checking that I was right about brown diamonds being the most common, I refreshed my memory on diamond colours and in addition to blue, yellow, white and pink they can be green, black, orange, purple and red. Which is pleasing to me somehow, if only because I think Pearls are so cute and I get to imagine Pearls of many tints and hues attending on them.
