It’s wonderful how they embrace the shipping of their characters. And have for years. I’d heard that they were instructed to stop joking about it at conventions back when the show was still airing. If only the producers had welcomed the opportunity to write a gay relationship with two actors who were so comfortable with it, the show would have been so much richer.
AND THE SERIES WOULD’VE ENDED IN A MAGNIFICENT DOUBLE WEDDING.

THEY WOULD BOTH BE SO WELL-DRESSED, GARAK WOULD NOT HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY.
‘But I should wear my dress uniform.’
‘The one that makes you look like a waiter? Over my dead body. Look, just put it on, you can tell everyone I tortured you until you gave in.’
“But just look at all this! It’s… it’s… well, what happened to ‘plain, simple Garak’? “
“He decided he didn’t want to get married to a waiter dressed head to toe in scratchy black wool. Put it on.”
‘Would you marry me even if I were just a waiter?’
‘I don’t know. Get dressed, bring me a drink and we’ll see.’

“Now you’re just being mean.”
“No, you’re being tragically colorblind and sartorially unfortunate. I’m really being quite kind.”
“Oh God, it’s going to be like this every morning with you, isn’t it?”
‘That’s up to you. You can continue to complain about the perfectly beautiful clothes that I have hand-made to your exact measurements, sitting up late into the night, keeping fatigue at bay with the thought of how handsome you’ll look and how elegant you’ll feel… wait a minute. Do you know, I didn’t know my mother but I think for just a moment there I became her?’
‘I think you do need that drink.’
‘Run and get it, there’s a dear.’
While he was gone Garak found the dress uniform and stuffed it in the panel under the replicator, or possibly had it beamed out into the middle of empty space.
While he waited for his drink, he wondered who he should lead a trail of incriminating evidence to, to frame them for this terrible theft.
Perhaps he could pass it off as some sort of best man’s prank by O’Brien. Yes, that would do nicely; amusing but not really destructive.
And O’Brien was sure to raise some sort of stink about it, which would lead to a most entertaining argument at some point that Garak was already looking forward to.
After all, it would only disappoint O’Brien if Garak went around being trustworthy and amiable and not stirring up trouble. He was determined to live down to the man’s expectations. Otherwise he might one day weaken and issue an invitation to dinner.
