I’ve seen a couple of random episodes (I don’t even remember if it was brotherhood or not) It’s to be watched eventually

Ooh, okay, then I am catching you at just the right time to mention this: the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime was produced at the same time as the manga, did not have the benefit of knowing the ending of the manga storyline beyond an outline, and thus has a drastically different ending.  Now, sometimes this is a good thing; I greatly prefer the end of the first season of Sailor Moon to the equivalent part of the manga.  However, I feel that it’s the reverse for Fullmetal Alchemist.  I am also not a fan of how some important characters were handled along the way - major makeovers to their detriment.  

So my recommendation to you would be to skip straight to the reboot, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.  It is flipping wonderful.  Its only major departure from the manga that I’ve observed is to skip the first chapter - then much later on when a character who was introduced in that chapter makes a reappearance they make a joke of the fact that nobody remembers who the fuck he is and this infuriates him, which I enjoy.

Seriously, this show makes me cry and shout “OH FUCK YOU” at the screen, it makes me bounce in my seat and shriek with glee, it is A Good Thing.

I believe I’ve heard the same from a couple of others here.I’ll be watching it. eventually.
