Eh. Think of it as a two-hour bigger budget, kinda artsy, kinda melodramatic outer limits.
So full disclosure, I was in a small (7rowsx13 seats) theatre that was fairly full. And I could hear everyone’s everything (I’ve been so spoiled when I go to theatres usually there’s maybe 10-12 people there and far away from me). So I was a little…annoyed I guess going in so it may colour my perception.
Where it works best is at the concept of an alien language, mindset and the aliens themselves once they are fully revealed. The loop it weaves itself however is overly simplified, I think. Both main characters are also essential blank slates. Now the performances themselves are strong but….
I don’t know. Just wasn’t quite the thing I expected. There are elements that are similar the Childhood’s End adaptation shown last year, and other out of Outer Limits’ Trial By Fire. It was certainly something, I’m just not sure if it was anything more than….meh.
