Another late second season entry, “The Wire,” called for Bashir to save the life of his Cardassian pal Garak (Andrew Robinson), who was suffering the brutal pain of an implant apparently placed in his brain by Enabran Tain, the head of the Obsidian Order. “That had the same function for Andy as ‘Armageddon Game’ had for me. That was a prototypical character exploration episode for Andy and me. We spent so much time together, got to know each other and realized we liked working with each other,” [Siddig] says. “That’s actually another show that’s close to me. Andy and I worked extremely hard on that one and it took a great deal out of both of us. We realized at that point that the relationship between Garak and Bashir was never to look back. The show itself was very real and very relevant.”
