The grifter-in-chief, of course, is President Trump. But you can’t be allowed to see the grift or the grift fails. So at every point the act is exposed, misdirection occurs.
For Trump, misdirection usually entails one of two moves:
1. The outrageous tweet/comment – e.g., no trans people in the military. As a tweet. Without context or legal authority. HEY EVERYBODY LOOK OVER HERE!
2. Personnel turmoil. Someone gets thrown under a bus. HEY EVERYBODY LOOK OVER HERE!
In order to understand the Trump Presidency you don’t need to know much about politics. But Penn & Teller’s “Fool Us” should be required viewing!
