Renae and I were less than impressed with this DSC episode which featured the old trick bag of Mary Celeste in Space, Dead Space Bump in the Nights, The Thing, etc. The crew so far doesn’t come across as likeable and there’s some horrible contrivances at play.
(uh, more spoilers, stuff Renae and I talked about)
But I was happy to see Rekha Sharma and hope she gets to say more than five words next time. Lorca is built as an enigma, Saru remains good, the roomie is ok for now and Burnham (reluctantly) tries to take control of her destiny.
Bits
- Klingons have shushing motions?
- Is…is the prison shuttle pilot ok? I assumed Discovery beamed them when they arrived but…
- I don’t know why I was surprised there was more than one of her class, and I guess it makes sense it was built after the Enterprise (numbering aside). There’s hint of TMP Era refits.
- I’m not sure Georgiou dying or the mutiny was necessary to achieve this level of mistrust. Lorca pulled some strings to get her there, could have been easily accomplished over Georgiou’s objections, keeping mentorship alive.
- Starfleet hasn’t had a mutiny yet? wow are they in a shock the next few years.
- Hey if there are Klingons on Glenn, where did their ship go? (or was it just a shuttle?)
- This technology for insta travel I guess will blow up in their faces some more (might it inspire transwarp?) and yeah I saw the references to Devil in the Dark, Court Martial and The Paradise Syndrome.
