This is a good time to plug this petition to repeal FOSTA

insaneperspectives

Even if you couldn’t care less about sex workers this bill is bad fucking news.
The full text is here, but if you want a summation it’s that a service found facilitating prostitution is up for major fines and jail time.
Why this matters:
It means that EVERY service you use now has to moderate every single thing you do to make sure you’re not involved with prostitution, or they become liable. This is the first step in holding web services accountable to what people post/stream/say using them. Nonhyperbolically, this would be the end of basically every non-paid platform on the internet. Do you think tumblr is going to hire thousands of people to scan every post? What about youtube, will they employ millions to watch every video? Once /any/ of the bills like this have been proposed it’s bye bye internet as we know it.

I’m frightened and terrified…? Censorship always scares me. No opinion on the first part, out of my wheel house. But censorship as a rule is scary…
