It is just so frustrating that SGA writers said if they had more seasons, they would add a reserved line which revealing Sheppard’s past a bit more, his mother’s death and his own guilt of not letting it go. (the original scripts of Remnants had it)
That is why he was ever struggling, never resting, going day after day with the guilt of feeling unable to protect his most beloved friends.

Pretty sure I also read a showrunner’s hypothetical sixth season in which Kanaan got offed and Sheppard became Teyla’s baby daddy, so be careful what you wish for.
