That’s FOUR changes Tumblr has made this week that make my life harder.

Way to go.

What were the four? I’ve managed to miss what any of them were…

  1. For some reason you can no longer see which blog a message is sent to in your inbox.  I run a lot of blogs and get a lot of messages, so this is a pretty big problem for me.
  2. You can no longer remove tags whilst typing them in the editng box by hitting the backspace key.  You have to manually click on every tag to make it go away if you make a typo.  I suffer from bad RSI so every extra click is pain.
  3. Tumblr has completely overhauled the Theme Garden and reduced the number of free themes available from around 1700 to about 50.  I can understand why they want to push the premium themes, but the selection of free themes is back to where it was in 2007 with around 100 million more users.  Is this progress?
  4. Then there’s the major issue of Tumblr hiding posts from everyone but the last 100 people you followed after the first page of your dashboard. I know they are doing it to lighten the load on the servers and reduce downtime, but I still can’t get my head around it and quite frankly it makes me really upset.

I would also include being forced to manually add in a caption every time you want to send a post to Twitter, whereas you used to just tick a box and it was done for you… but they rolled that one out a few weeks ago now.

I’m starting to wonder when they are going to do something that actually benefits users.  It’s like anti-functionality has become de rigeur…
