Babylon 5: The show that had an Alcoholic character.

The show that didn’t say he had a drinking problem, or that he had trouble with booze, the show that had an Alcoholic character.

The show that didn’t say there was a magical program that could get him out of it. The show that neither exonerated him, nor blamed him for his problem.

The man that believed he was in control, that he didn’t have a problem. The man who tried to help his friend stop going down the same path, but couldn’t accept that he had to admit he had a problem.

The man who found and lost the love of his life twice, who was used and manipulated, who decided that he could at least be manipulated on his terms.

The show that said that his alcoholism was a by-product of who he is, that said that he needed to recognise and reconcile this within himself before he could get better.

The man who lashed out because if he couldn’t help his friend how could anyone help him? The man who fucked it all up.

The man who’s friends gave him the space to pull himself out of it.
