Timeline of The Terror, by episode
Maybe it’s just me but, although some Terror episodes tell us directly when they take place, I still found myself getting a little lost regarding the timeframe sometimes and I don’t know about y’all, but I like knowing how much time was passing for the characters between major events. So here is a timeline that I’ve pieced together from dates that are either directly given or noted offhand in the dialogue - hope it’s helpful for folks!
Ep 1 (Go For Broke): September, 1846 (directly given and, according to the Victory Point note, the ships were frozen in on September 12th specifically)
[eight months]
Ep 2 (Gore): late May – early June, 1847 (date given as “Spring, 1847″ but Sir John refers to “signs of a cold May” while patronizing Crozier near the beginning of the episode which implies to me that it is late May when he says this)
[a few days]
Ep 3 (The Ladder): June 11th, 1847 (since we have the exact date of Sir John’s death, this one was easy)
[five months]
Ep 4 (Punished as a Boy): November, 1847 (Fitzjames mentions that Silna has been camped near the ships for five months)
[one month]
Ep 5 (First Shot a Winner, Lads): December, 1847 (Crozier mentions to Goodsir that Silna has berthed on Erebus for a month)
[two or three weeks]
Ep 6 (A Mercy): around January 2nd–9th, 1848 (Carnivale took place on the first sunrise after polar night, which should have put it around January 9th, but at the beginning of the episode, this is still a week away)
[three and a half months]
Ep 7 (Horrible from Supper): April 22nd–25th, 1848 (again, we have the exact date they abandoned ships and that the real life Victory Point note was left so, assuming we’re going by that timeline, this is an easy one)
[same day]
Ep 8 (Terror Camp Clear): April 25th, 1848 (in accordance with the date given on the Victory Point note)
[next day]
Ep 9 (The C, the C, the Open C): April 26th(?) – late July/August, 1848 meaning this episode takes place over at least three months (by the latter half of the episode, the there are sunrises/sets so it must be past polar day, which ended around July 21st, so it could be anytime after that but I’d place it in the late July to early August range)
[same day]
Ep 10 (We Are Gone): August-ish (per last description) – September(?), 1848, then 1850 after two year timeskip (this is heavy guesswork - I truly have no idea how much time actually elapsed between Crozier’s being injured by the Tuunbaq and his discovering the fate of his men but my guess is about a month)
That’s all I’ve got but feel free to let me know if I’ve missed anything!
