spookdoodles
I haven’t had the chance to draw much for my terror au recently, but I’ve been doing research for it and it’s way better developed since I last posted about it.
Some notes about AU Silna
- She runs a wildlife rehabilitation centre/clinic
- Her father was a professor of folklore and mythology, he used to tell her folk tales as bed time stories (the Tuunbaq was her favourite)
- after her father died she got tattoos in his honour, the tuunbaq on one shoulder and her father on the other (based on the little carvings from the series)
- she’s mute and uses sign language (Francis and Blanky both have a passable knowledge of sign language, Goodsir is learning so he can speak to her properly)
- she got her tongue pierced when she was younger, but she doesn’t often wear it these days
- she studied in Canada before moving to the UK
- she carries a hunting knife with her whenever she goes out walking
- she made those hairclips herself and does carving/woodwork in her spare time
I based her jumper patterns on what refs I could find of Netsilik clothing (which unfortunately wasn’t a lot). Same with her tattoos, (apparently Netsilik women traditionally all had facial tattoos?) but again there weren’t a huge amount of images and I didn’t want to copy anything directly without a good knowledge of what I was doing, so I went mostly by the types of lines I was seeing and then just fitted them to the shape of her arm. (The tattoo designs are VERY rough and I’ll probably revise them a bit later, but the basic idea is there.)
