#Then it all connects to the loss of Billy Orren way back in Go For Broke. #Collins reaches out for Orren but is stopped by Des Voeux- physically restrained by men who seem to embrace Collins. #Later in the ocean’s depths the spectral figure of Orren’s corpse comes out of the gloom his arms outstretched. #When Collins speaks to Stanley Collins’ hands are clenched into fists as though he has to stop himself from reaching out. #Collins’ storyline is about reaching out for something that eludes him. Ending in an embrace he cannot survive. #To make the metaphor for mental illness complete we may say that Collins is reaching out for the person he was before it all went wrong.
