I’m still thinking about this new Lloyd Henried, because on one hand I enjoy his over the top performance, and the New Vegas fleshpits, fighting pits, whatnot. But also I miss the nuance that Miguel Ferrer brought to the old one. Randall made him his right hand man and he rose up to the challenge. This new Lloyd seems….well not that deep (and again dating julie lawry which is just weird).
And now trashcan man….seems to lack a lot of nuance here, there was something in what Matt Frewer brought that just isn’t in here.
We’re told and shown that New Vegas is operational but it’s not because of the people at the top. Also cartoonishly evil. Which 1994 Stand didn’t really delve into until the very end. It was to sort of lull you whereas here it’s “they told you sex and violence was bad well here it is! enjoy!!”
They got to add more direct quotes from the book that weren’t there before, but its not enough to balance out what’s turning out to be a bad series.
Also someone pointed on here out this turned into The Stand: A Harold Lauder story and they’re not wrong.
It just occurred to me that while this mini might not be as bad as Under the Dome (a low bar if there was one), both were CBS productions…but a quick imdb search says they don’t share any behind the scenes people, just one actress (and you know, Stephen King).
