Yes its a lot more nuanced than just headlines. At the end of the day the current model by the two monopolies also can’t go on, but also what’s left of the media companies are misshapen giants of their own with a lot coverage gaps. keep shaking media, government and tech and see what falls out.

I know Tumblr is allergic to nuance, but the Australian regulation Google is opposing would be EXTREMELY bad for free speech and would *encourage* media monopolies by making it so that search engines could only list websites the search engine had PAID to include (so, smaller or controversial sites would totally disappear). As with similar European laws, it's part of a project to destroy the Internet by treating unauthorized links as copyright violations, and I hope Google pressure squelches it.
