He sure shit the bed with some of the properties he had. He has good entries that inevitably can’t live up to the sequel hype. Star Trek 2009 is shiny and glossy and got a whole new generation into trek but Into Darkness was disastrous. TFA would have been fine even being a clone of the original star wars if Rise of Skywalker wasn’t so comically bad. (And I’ll say it right now that I liked the Last Jedi a lot). The final season of Lost…..actually kind of like the last season of BSG. “They have a plan” no. no they don’t have a plan and it shows. (BSG’s is still watchable but i have 0 desire to revisit that final Lost season)
I think just because he’s stating something that’s been obvious about his work for a long time now, but I don’t know if it’ll actually changes the way he writes things.
And sometimes the mystery works! I enjoyed Cloverfield (but steps down with Lane and Paradox), his Mission: Impossible III was a lot stronger than the John Woo one imo.
