a lot of people in the notes are pointing out that they started doing this bc you cant use commas in the tags and it spread from there and im so obsessed w this. the medium is the message the sign manipulates the signal etc. the way that tumblr tags were never intended to be used the way they are and what started as a workaround  for the limitations of a medium not designed to be used the way it was grew past just replacing commas to become something semiotically additive, popularizing a new kind of pause that doesn’t just contain information about length but an indescribable sort of. flavor? u know. yeah idk i just love the way language has responded to its new applications in a digital/instant communication/globalized everyone-is-connected-world etc and the magnitude! and direction! with which its vectors shift like cephalopod tentacles changing colors !!
