god. Laszlo finding out that Colin Robinson is dying and not telling anyone? Not even Nadja, his best friend? Most likely because he knew how stressed out she was with council duties, so he just thought no it’s okay I can handle this?
Like he really just took on the grief and caretaker responsibilities of that on his own for months and you can talk about how that would be stupid in the real world but in fiction? For a character who was previously so much more selfish and emotionally uninvolved with anyone apart from his wife? Like the love of it oh my god
I’ve really loved the character development Laszlo has had over the course of the show and in this season in particular. I rewatched “On the Run” recently and when he says he took a bit of Jackie Daytona’s kindness and humanity with him it rings truer than it did the first time I saw it. Also the rewatch value this adds to this season. Laszlo risking his skin to save Colin from the Siren? Laszlo’s sadness and conflict when he says afterwards “I’d say you didn’t experience true love tonight”?
Bc…. Like imagine you knew your friend is dying and they get picked up by someone who is 90% probability trying to kill them, but they’re all like “I’m in love!” And you’re like yeah I don’t think this love I think I have to save you from yourself by afterwards you’re struck by the terror of whether or not you made the right call because what if that was your friend’s only chance at true love? And this is Laszlo, who sees true love as beautiful and transcendent. Like I don’t think romantic true love is the be all and end all but I think Laszlo would feel gutted for Colin in the moment he realises that Colin might never experience that. Ever.
"he took a bit of Jackie Daytona’s kindness and humanity with him"
it's been said before but I think it's worth saying again: acting more like a kind person, even if you don't do it from pure motives, makes you become more of a kind person, and if we learn nothing else from this stupid horny vampire show, it's not a bad lesson.
