My initial read of the scene was simply that Dracula is a big nerd who is so fascinated by England that he genuinely finds the railway timetables interesting reading, but I also like:
(Jonathan exits)
(Dracula tears around the room tidying up and lighting the lamps before his keen ears hear Jonathan’s returning steps, whereupon he flings himself on the sofa, grabs the first nearby book and affects to read)
(Just a second before Jonathan enters Dracula realises he’s holding the book upside down and quickly flips it over)
