The Scorched Forest is a location in the northern part of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, near the border with Belarus.

In 2006, a wildfire raged in this area, heavily overgrown with vegetation.  On April 12th, while firefighters supported by the military tried to contain the blaze, a sudden catastrophic event (which later turned out to be the C-Consciousness’ attempt to alter the noosphere) caused waves of energy to sweep across the CEZ, engulfing the forest with unbearably bright light and thunderous noise which seemed to shake the ground itself. Most of the firefighters and military personel were killed outright or were never seen alive again. This was the day when the Zone as it is known today was created.
