I think my favorite thing about the Correspondent is that the essential information he went over the word limit to include consists of:

- Mr. Swales predicting the storm.

- Praise for his own running ability.

- A bad joke a law student made.

- The efforts of the local SPCA trying to befriend Count Dogula.

- Thanking his translator.

None of this is necessary for the story of the Demeter. I have to assume that the editor won't fire him yet because he seems to have an unusual ability to convince people to let him look at crime scenes and documents.
