Being a lower crewman on Voyager would be super frustrating.

First the captain strands you, which if you’re Federation you’re probably more or less on board with.  It sucks you’re in this position but really, you’d be a party to genocide if you hadn’t destroyed the array and now not get to really go where no human’s ever been. Fine.

But then the captain picks up some furry trucker and his child bride and both of them get more responsibility, attention from the senior staff, and holodeck time than you do.

We get underway and oh look at that, if you aren’t an officer you have to room with someone else.  A roommate wouldn’t be too bad, you were expecting it for this mission.  What you weren’t expecting was for this mission to be expected to last seventy years.  Seventy years with a roommate.  Lets hope they’re tidy.

You guess the EMH is becoming sentient?  That’s cool.  Good for him.  But he’s allowed to screw with his programming whenever he wants and that seems like a bad idea?  He’s almost killed himself and others a half a dozen times.  Like, you don’t go and perform brain surgery on yourself without permission.  Why should the only doctor be able to screw with his programming like that?

Then the captain adopts a borg and she also gets more responsibility, attention from the senior staff, and holodeck time than you do.  Then the drone willingly defects back to the Borg and we travel halfway across the quadrant to get her back.  Would they have gone back for you?  Some random lower decks crewperson?  I don’t know.  You’d rather not have to find out the hard way.

Then the pilot violates the Prime Directive and after a 30 day stay in the hold is just allowed to go back to his job.  Eventually he gets a promotion back to his original rank.  You however get no promotion.  To reiterate, the ex-con who then did more convict stuff, is now not only a higher rank than you but got a promotion before you did.

The borg got kidnapped. Again. And you go to to rescue her. Again. And again you wonder if the captain would come get you if you got scooped up. More and more you worry that the answer is an emphatic “probably not.”  This repeats itself like five times.

Eventually Voyager picks up some crewmen who have been committing war crimes from another Federation ship brought to the Delta Quadrant.  They get taken aboard and to your surprise, not given higher rank than you.  No word on Holodeck time.

Then the ship finds some more borg to adopt.  These are children.  Have you ever encountered a child in a dark hallway late at night?  Now imagine that but the child is a liberated borg.

There’s so much time travel shit that happens. The worst part about time travel shit is the paperwork. Standard crew reports, special mission reports, reports to Starfleet Medical, reports to Starfleet Historical Society, reports to Starfleet Department of Temporal Investigations (those are the worst), and a dozen others.

Now they’ve blocked off an entire Holodeck for the senior staff’s LARPing program so there’s more competition for the others. And now I guess they’re becoming sentient? What is it about this ship and sentient Holograms? Someone should probably look into that.
