I feel like half the people suddenly posting about Goncharov don't even realise that the movie was based on a classic Russian novel. Half the problem is that it was never translated into English, but honestly the extra depth of the story and characterisation in the original book is insane. I feel like the movie just just trying too hard to be edgy and sexy. Like they completely left out the whole thing about Joe's icepick being a gift from his estranged grandfather and when you know that it completely alters your understanding of his character! The movie just reduces him into some kind of joke and it's really disappointing.
