also why did they have crates of armour just stacked in some far off outpost in the middle of the mountains??? for the empire?? do we not have better logistics???

I think that makes sense if you assume the Empire has a huge and inefficient bureaucracy that sometimes sends large quantities of things to places where they are useless - like in M*A*S*H when they would get sent thousands of tongue depressors, or loads of winter clothing in the summer.
