I just got angrily told that 'NuTrek is a pejorative.'
We've been hearing this too. Apparently, the people who vocally proclaim anything done in the 2017-now era is "not real Trek" over use the phrase nuTrek (which first came about with the 2009 film).
Personally don't have an opinion on the matter. But more and more people are steering clear of using the phrase because it's being seen as a anti-modern Trek buzzword.
We've been going with 'modern Trek' for the discovery era shows of late. Which is surreal because we used modern trek to define the Berman era. Which is now becoming 90s trek. 😂
Oh the more things change the more they stay the same.
Or, hear me out, call it nuTrek and dilute the insult. Our word now, get dunked on.
We have to be mindful of what the community is doing, saying, using. Or not, and why. If more people using a specific term happen to be of the toxic fan variety, while supportive fans react negatively to the same term... perception is reality.
This happens in all communities, big and small. Individual opinions and choices on using such or not are what they are. But when you're a community hub like we are, you have to be aware and sensitive about such.
