A recent post on the “I support Officer Wilson” page says, “We started this page to be the voice that law enforcement did not have.” Another post from the same page says that Wilson has overcome a rough childhood himself and that becoming a police officer has helped him to overcome that.
Support grows for Darren Wilson, officer who shot teen - CNN.com
I don’t normally post about stuff like this commentary, but this article is genuinely offensive.
1. Even if this account is true, which witnesses say it isn’t, how is running towards someone justification for being shot to death?
2. Law Enforcement totally has had a voice in all of this, they’ve used to it lie, smear the victim and order people off the streets at gunpoint.
3. “a rough childhood himself”- Is anyone claiming that Michael Brown had a “rough childhood?” or is it just assumed because he’s a minority? And does having a “rough childhood” give you free reign to shoot an unarmed teenager? When has this even been a valid justification for anything?
Can you think of any other circumstances where the media would suggest we show more compassion towards a suspected murderer?
