I’ve been thinking about Fallout 3 and my boy Liberty Prime lately, and the end mission got me thinking. How did the Brotherhood of Steel persuade him that the Enclave were the intended target, when he still thinks he’s in Anchorage and is relentlessly hyperfocused on eradicating all things Red?

Because all I can think about is Liberty Prime stepping out of the Citadel, but his head immediately swivels… and suddenly he announces “COMMUNISM DETECTED” and lumbers off in completely the wrong direction, hellbent on obliterating Mama Dolce’s.

Meanwhile the BoS are frantically running after him going “Nonononono not that way! The enemy’s over there! Where are you going? STOP IN THE NAME OF STEEL…”

And as he disappears over the horizon to continue turning the Red Menace into red mist and they eventually stop running because they can’t keep up, they just stare bleakly after him like “oh shit, he’s too full of patriotism, how do we tell Elder Lyons that our super weapon is now on a cross-country mission to destroy all Pre-War TV dinner factories in North America and we just LOST THE GIANT ROBOT”.

(How the hell do you even explain to your superiors that you lost the giant robot *and* the strategically important thing and, oh yeah, the entire battle? That’s just a conversation nobody ever wants to have with their boss ever.)
