in one of the extras on the star trek dvd, jj abrams says he specifically contacted george takei for his blessing to cast john cho as sulu because cho is korean and takei is japanese and he thought that made sulu a japanese character and he wasn’t sure if he could cast john cho because of that

there is literally nothing you can say to me that will make me believe he didn’t know it was fucked up to cast benedict cumberbatch as khan
