Central Station, Montreal
Canadian National Railways consolidated the financially impaired Grand Trunk, the Canadian Northern group of railways, the National Transcontinental and the Canadian Government Railways … with many many other interesting assets.
In Montreal, Canada’s metropolis at that time, it took until the 1940s to organize the passenger terminals used by the Canadian National Railways at the CNR Central Station.
This unused postcard shows Central Station in the afternoon circa 1950.
Today, the original Central Station building is indistinct and almost invisible beside and under other structures. It is wonderfully integrated with Montreal’s underground city.
