The Orland Park local has disappeared for its former Wabash commuter territory, while that Santa Fe RS1 switches passenger cars on left. The MoPac/C&EI E7 (28) departs with the “Danville Flyer”, and the C&WI RS1 remains by the freight house with its caboose. Already the fresh blue on the E7 is marred by evidence of “mud pumps” along the way to and from Danville.

Im Jahr 1960 wurde am heutigen Datum das erste Mal »Der schwarze Kanal« im DDR- Fernsehprogramm ausgestrahlt. Der Moderator Karl-Eduard von Schnitzler analysierte nach SED-Maßstäben Ausschnitte des Westfernsehens. Jeden Montag konnten sich Bürger*innen der DDR für 20 Minuten die kommentierten Fassungen von verschiedenen Fernsehausschnitten des Westfernsehens auf einem Gerät wie diesem aus unserer Ausstellung anschauen, die als Antwort auf das analoge Westprogramm »Die rote Optik« gedacht waren.

On this day in 1960, »Der schwarze Kanal« was broadcast for the first time on GDR television. The presenter Karl-Eduard von Schnitzler analysed excerpts of West German television according to SED standards. Every Monday, citizens of the GDR could watch the annotated versions of various West German television excerpts for 20 minutes on a device like this one from our exhibition, which were intended as an answer to the analogue West German programme »Die rote Optik«.
