In 1962 the local merchants’ association commissioned the architect Richard Snibbe to design a new Deuce, the blocks of Forty-second Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues (New York). The plans called for restoration of live theater at some of the ten remaining theaters, glass-fronted retail all along the blocks, and pedestrian walkways above the street. A concrete divider in the middle was to be planted with seasonal landscaping.
