Movie Asks

A. First one that comes to mind? Code 46. There’s something true about the world it created. although a flawed movie it evokes some emotions about belonging and displacement.

D. I haven’t really been keeping up with broadcast? I was going to say in the Flesh but i want another series of it. True Detectives, the Marty Hart and Rust Cohle swan song.

M. Without question Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the 78 version. The original 50s works fine as a Red Scare piece but the 78 one is so perfect. Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Leonard Nimoy, Veronica Cartwright and a extremely young Jeff Goldblum. There’s a sense of inevitability as the walls close in. It’s downright creepy.

Q. I did some art history long ago but I haven’t retained much of it. I’m not sure I can properly answer this one. Except to Say Oh! the experimental artwork of A Scanner Darkly was great.

S. Maybe not so much a remake but a sequel to Escape from New York with George Miller directing. I’d want Old Man Plissken but would also be curious about a recast.

Z. Clue, maybe? I watch a lot of bad movies (mostly purposefully) and usually know what to expect going in. Clue was a disappointment.

Is this a new Star Trek series?

No this is part of 90s Marvel canon, although it is mostly new to me. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy focused on the adventures of Omega Squad which included the grandson of Matt Decker named….Matt Decker, A deep cover Romulan posing as a Vulcan and having forgotten about her past, Nog, a combative Andorian, a powerful Betazoid and their Trill commander. It’s basically set during Nog’s Academy years (and Nog feels poorly written, like S1).

When it came out I’d only really read 1 or 2 issues but didn’t care for it at the time. It’s too young marvel. But, the multi-series Telepathy War starts here (and spills over into DS9/TNG, and Voyager too from the looks of it.) and I never did read the start of it.

Come of think of it, of all the offerings Marvel had for Star Trek, my favourite was the Pike series bc the artwork was pretty damn good and set up something of a decent short-term and long-term arc. I stuck through Star Trek Unlimited as well. But Voyager, oh after the first issue I couldn’t stand the artwork and DS9 I abandoned after 3 (except for the aforementioned Telepathy War crossover). Oh and I liked the 5-part post TMP series they had.
