the failsafe is even more convoluted! Unscrew the two quick screws around the safety glass, remove glass, throw down the two big switches to release the failsafe panel further down the room. Once that’s open key in a sequence and use four other screws to bring cylinders that have arming buttons

Alien aka That Darn Cat

It’s so damn convoluted to get into that computer room:

Thumbprint, three buttons to open up a panel that holds a keycard, bring that keycard to the right slot which activates the room and bunch of lights outside the door, press a couple of buttons more to get inside…

Alien plays the don’t get separated trope well when Harry Dean Stanton goes after the cat alone (rather than get another false positive from it on their scanners). There’s a good sense of dread in the bowels of the ship and a fair warning that the former-little-chestburster shed it skin. But when it shows up it’s like nothing ever seen before.

That 2nd dinner scene is one of the best pieces of cinematic history.

It’s fun too b/c so far everyone has had some screen time, to some degree and it could be anyone’s movie (except probably for Harry Dean Stanton but imagine him surviving instead). Cartwright and Weaver have had the least so far but for Weaver it’s a bit of a misdirection
