the 100: *presents big, muscled, tatooed, black guy as one of the most gentle characters who would never hurt anyone if he wasn’t made to do so by rich white male*

tumblr: but THE 100 IS RACIST!!!1111!!
BONUS:
in the 100 we have:
* teenage lesbain being the person who holds most power in the show

* teenage bisexual girl being in position of power and being main character

* white rich male being the biggest source of evil in the show

So much racism !!!!!!!! Awful show!!!!!
why are people so dumb, it’s one most representatives shows out there
This is so wrong and I just… I can’t ignore it because it has so many notes.
Let’s start from the top, shall we?
the 100: * puts black man in position of power*
And later on strips him of his power to push a white woman to the top, makes him delirious, some kind of Noah’s Ark type of character who went from wanting to sacrifice himself to save the people on the Ark, to throwing a scared kid into the water to gain time, getting him killed in a horrible way.
the 100: * puts Tibetan descent woman in position of power*
And kills her off for shock value. Seriously, they had a plot thought for her and a writer went: “What if we kill her for shock value?” and they actually did it! And then replaced her with a white girl. Shocking. Also, it’s constantly painted as a villain by the fandom, while they worship Lexa for being on the same position as Anya was, wary of the Sky People.
the 100: * puts black woman in position of power*
And portrays her as the angry black woman who is so mean to the main characters… The narrative of the show doesn’t push the viewer to side with Indra, we have Lexa yelling at her because Indra doesn’t agree with her, for example. She doesn’t want to help the Sky People -which is normal, since they are at war- and she’s painted as a villain for it, by the show and by the fandom.
the 100: * makes latina, disabled character one of the greatest characters in the show and makes her in charge of her own sexuality with absolute no slut shaming*
And constantly sidelines her, uses her to further the plot and save people but doesn’t give her an arc that doesn’t revolve around a dude. One thing is being in charge of your own sexuality and another one is just making everything about it. Also, she didn’t mourn Finn, she stayed mad at Clarke for like an episode an a half and then it wasn’t addressed again, her struggles are easily sidelined. Is constantly being tortured too, and sometimes in unnecessary ways, like on the last episode when she was tortured just for the sake of Wick’s reaction? It didn’t add anything else to the plot that Wick being concerned about her. Also, Abby slapped for no reason. Abby, someone that she looks up to, slapped her and didn’t apologize afterwards, even though Raven’s mother was abusive. We, and Raven, are just supposed to accept it.
the 100: * makes half-Filipino male main male character*
But doesn’t actually say that he’s half-filipino, instead casts a white woman to play his mother, a white girl to play his sister AND a white boy to play young!bellamy. Is relegated to second in command even thought on the first season of the show he co-leads with Clarke. But everyone sees Clarke as the only leader (Abby, Kane, Lexa…), and the only one that actually says out loud how important Bellamy is, is Clarke when she tells Lexa that they couldn’t have done it without him.
the 100: * makes Korean descent male everyone’s beloved male character*
And doesn’t give him an actual ark. The Mount Weather plot should have been Monty’s story, but instead Jasper was the head of the Delinquents and Monty was his sidekick… Again. Just like Raven, he’s there to save people’s ass and doesn’t actually have further development ON THE SHOW (fanfiction doesn’t count) than being Jasper’s friend and being super intelligent.
the 100: *presents big, muscled, tatooed, black guy as one of the most gentle characters who would never hurt anyone if he wasn’t made to do so by rich white male*
Actually makes him a scary, quiet man until Octavia ~saves him~. Is unnecessarily tortured on BOTH seasons and while he’s struggling with his drug addiction, Octavia hits him and tells him how to be a grounder, even though she’s been a grounder for like 2 days. That isn’t addressed anymore, it’s something that happened and apparently it’s an okay thing to do. Just hit the people that you love when they are having a hard time. Like that one time when Abby slapped Raven, good times.
BONUS
* teenage lesbain being the person who holds most power in the show
Also being the replacement of a WOC. But, nevermind, they put so much make up on her face that she actually looks like she’s of color. Seriously, there is people that have said they thought Lexa/Alycia was Latinx. She isn’t, Alycia is a white girl with a darker foundation, bronzer and a bindi on her forehead. And to people that are gonna tell me that the bindi is what indicates she’s the Commander, it’s not. When Gustus was pretending to be the commander, he wasn’t wearing a bindi looking piece of jewellery on his forehead. He was wearing the pad.
Just look at this:

* teenage bisexual girl being in position of power and being main character
And constantly having her storyline pushed forward by killing off people of color (Wells and Anya, for example), and pushing people of color to the side (Bellamy).
* white rich male being the biggest source of evil in the show
Who has more depth that the “evil” WOC that was working with him, or even Indra. We know more about Cage than we know about a character who is good. We know his motivations, we know part of his past, and they spent a lot of time developing him. No so much Anya, when she was a ~villain~.
Look, I love the show, okay? But I’m not gonna blindly consume it. It’s okay to like something problematic, what it’s not okay is to ignore those problematic aspects and drown the voices of actual POC who see racism in this show.
I, as a white girl, didn’t even realize until I started to read some posts. Why? Because I’m privileged and I see myself represented in a GOOD light every day. POC? No, they don’t. Having actors of color playing characters of color doesn’t erase the racism underlying on the writing. And I want the show to be better and be enjoyable to everyone, that’s why I keep saying that it’s racist. I’m not telling anyone to stop watching, I just want the writers to pull their shit together and give the POCs good representation. Because that’s what they deserve.
Repeat with me: Representation it’s not inherently good representation.

Half the things you read on Tumblr be like
me while getting head
what i say: oh ya baby you’re doing so good
what i think is: how do birds know they need to travel south for the winter? what if the place they go to is getting a bunch of cold weather? do they keep flying south? at some point they will reach Antarctica so what do they do at that point? turn back and go back north? when does the flying stop
Advertising to Tumblr users can be an uphill battle, requiring at least a basic understanding of how Tumblr culture works.
Denny’s managed it by being weird and funny. Taylor Swift does it by acting like a normal 20-something cat blogger. Media outlets like MTV and Disney are pretty good at encouraging fans to do their own thing.
Nike, on the other hand, just got everyone on Tumblr to hate its brand with one single-sentence ad: “Embrace your uncomfort zone.”

Since the stereotypical Tumblr user is a nerd, a social justice advocate or both, Nike may not have been the ideal brand choice for this website.
si señor!
where’s that picture of david duchovny gazing longingly at jar jar binks in a picturesque landscape of an alien planet
