Abandoned Lake Delores Waterpark, CA
Development of this park started in the 60′s, beginning as a small man-made lake that was fed by underground springs. For the next 3 decades, the park expanded with the addition of various recreational facilities, multiple slides, and a lazy river that circumnavigated the park. Advertised as “The fun spot in the desert!”, the park saw numerous owners and names, including Discovery Waterpark and Rock-A-Hoola. Lake Delores finally succumbed to the struggles of being a waterpark in the middle of the Mojave Desert and closed permanently after the summer of 2004. In March of 2020, San Bernardino County approved a new development plan to bring the waterpark back, but that was in the Before Times. I have a feeling this place will continue its slow decay under the desert sun.
