It looks like the vote isn’t today, but you can sign up to volunteer to help them run the referendum/participate in activism related to this:

Ontario please, please vote.

Ontarians, please pause in your scrolling to do this. If you're 16 or older, it takes only a few minutes! If you're not eligible to vote on this, PLEASE reblog it anyway! It's not sexy, but it's wildly important.

If you can see the CAPTCHA, remember to pause your AdBlocker on the website so they can confirm you're a person!

Yes, only Canadians can sign.

If you can’t sign, please reblog to spread the word.

CANADIANS

Hello. I am speaking to you on behalf of trans and non-binary people across the United States, the UK, and beyond. Our political situation at home is more dire than ever. In the UK, they would rather cause a constitutional crisis than allow us to transition. In the US, there are calls by prominent political leaders to ban our very existence. Every day there are more attacks, both physical and political.

You can help us.

This is a petition (Canadians only, I'm afraid) to allow trans and non-binary people to seek asylum in Canada. It takes only a minute to sign, and if this passes, all our lives will be so much safer.

Thank you.

"labour optimization" holy shit

handweavers

this is in canada btw not the us. the analysis going in the notes of the us and capitalism and third world exploitation etc is true but i want people to know that this is happening in toronto canada because canada and canadian companies are not exempt from this, canadian capitalism is just as culpable in exploiting workers and imperialist outsourcing of labour, this is something happening in one of the so-called "most diverse and cosmopolitan and liberal progressive cities in the world" according to canadian liberal media. it's important not to let canada off the hook for this kind of shit either

Quoting Justin's dad is a nice touch. Well played, Jagmeet.

To expand a little bit for anyone whose not Canadian or familiar with Canadian political history on the extra layer of "oh snap" to the reply that might not be obvious.

"Just watch me" was famously said by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, Justin Trudeau's father, during the October Crisis and became a bit of a, I don't want to say meme because that has more amusement based connotations but basically a non joking meme, in Canadian politics afterwards.

Justin Tredeau has very much played into and used his father's reputation and public image to his advantage throughout his career, so Jagmeet Singh replying to Tredeau's remarks this way specifically isn't just him making a snappy one liner its also him calling that out/challenging Trudeau's image as the perfect version of his father.

White vegans are going to kill us all.

The cognitive dissonance it would take to vote Conservative over a few animal welfare policies when this is the same party that supports the oil and gas industry and is trying to make us do less about climate change (which will make entire species go extinct), is pro-hunting and guns and supports the factory farming of animals.

Like I get it, if you care about animal welfare, that’s fine but don’t just jump at the first party that says something nice without actually examining what they represent as a whole.
