Although the last trek comic story I just read had the tired trope “time travel to make things better” the ending actually worked Peter Kirk go with some doomed aliens travel back in time to save their dying planet but he’s just along for the ride so he can try to save his parents (sigh). Anyway Kirk and and the Enterprise are pursuing his nephew and of course it doesn’t work, Sam dies trying to protect Jim and Jim is infected. He’s beamed back and the Enterprise is forced to withdraw as their past selves are arriving. But Peter wasn’t with them, Peter got infected too, stole a shuttle and was the man heard barreling towards the sun at the beginning of Operation: Annihilate.
