#General hammond
Hammond was a soft spoken, gentle man who conveyed an aura of authority and didn't have to assert it to get people to respect him or do as he asked. I really liked that his character was loved by everyone on the show and he's the kind of CO everyeryone wishes they had. He rarely got angry, but when he did I feel he personified the expression "fear the wrath of the gentle man".
Hammond is great and in no small part due to Don S. Davis. Hammond was originally written to be a lot more of antagonist and you can see it in S1 (how Catherine viewed Hammond in The Torment of Tantalus was supposed to represent the audience POV), but perseverance by Davis got them to evolve the character that we know and love. Davis also had a an admin and military background (army captain) that he brought to the show. There’s bits I love, anything to do really with supporting Sam, his granddaughters, offering to resign if it would give the time they needed to save Teal’c….
I swear Jack just got a lil hard there.
