It’s really vitally important to me the way women are portrayed. As someone who has always felt at times pretty genderless because of my size, it interests me to challenge ideas of prejudice and femininity and what it is to be a woman. It’s still something that I don’t have all the answers for but I would like to make a bit of a difference; do something, anything, that causes people to have more sense of equality.

I love the Gwendoline is a) taller than everyone and b) still wears high hells to make herself EVEN TALLER than everyone. (Example: She’s only one inch taller than NCW but she’s like, “Nah I want to tower over him so he knows who is in charge.”)

[On playing Brienne of Tarth in HBO’s Game of Thrones] God yes, that’s heavy. It’s mostly real. I do all my own stunts and come away with bruises and scratches. After one scene I was absolutely covered in bruises all down one leg and up one arm. But it’s worth it, it’s quite fun. I enjoy knocking around with the boys.

Part of the reason why I love acting is that you do hope that somehow your work will connect to people and somehow expand their consciousness somewhat, and being able to challenge notions of prejudice through work - through my work - is really thrilling.
