THE ARMY JEEP THEN AND NOW!
Willys Quad (rebuilt version, again the MB windshield), MB, M-38 (MC), and M-38A1 (MD) lined up together on May 15, 1952.
"The fashionable looking vehicle at the right is the new Army Jeep, first of $149,000,000 worth of the new look! Jeeps being built for the Army by Willys-Overland. The higher rounded hood, slightly wider and longer body gives it a fashionable ook but the primary purpose of the biggest design change in the Jeep's history is to make room for a 72-horsepower F-head engine which goes two-thirds further with 20 per cent more power. Its companion at the left is the pilot model of the 1,500 specially built vehicles which won Willys-Overland the contract to build the first 16,000 Jeeps for the Army a few months before Pearl Harbor."
"M/Sgt. Ethelen Beed and Aiman 2/c1 Mina Powell pose with the two models."
