Every species can smell its own extinction. The last ones left won’t have a pretty time with it. In ten years, maybe less, the human race will just be a bedtime story for their children. A myth, nothing more.

Investigator John Trent is hired to find Sutter Cane, a horror story writer, who, after finishing his last book, mysteriously disappears. Even though he suspects that this is just a publicity stunt, he accepts the job. Trent starts reading the books, looking for clues as to where Cane might be hiding, but the books are macabre and, after reading, people act in a strange way.
