On this day the 6th August 1945 the world’s first Atomic Bomb used in anger was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima by the Enola Gay.

A safe estimate of the death toll is 100,000 but it could well be much higher.  Arguable this attack saved countless lives that may have been lost from a prolonged war, but also it is said that the Japanese government were on the verge of surrender at the time of the attack, we may never know.
